TOne of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
book review
This was a really fun time rereading this book. I started reading this book when I first started to get back into reading in 2020. I never had read in English before and I just finished all the bright places and this was the book I picked up next and fell in love with reading ya mystery books. but I never had time to finish this series when the last book came out last year. so I thought it would be fun to reread the first book now, 4 years later, now that my understanding of the English language is better and wow that was a great choice because i really had an amazing time.
This book is an easy beginner book into ya, and a mystery. Also if english isn’t your first language you can begin here because it is easy to read. The story itself is so good I just love how Karen M. McManus wrote the mystery aspect. I did not guess the right person till the end of the book and that when I already read the book once before. I love seeing our characters grow throughout the book while dealing with this hard situation and being suspects. Along the book they grow more into this friendship that did not exist at the beginning of the book. My favorite characters have not changed since the last time I still loved Nate and Bronwyn with all my heart. This time I also saw some clues for the next book in the series that makes me excited for the next book. The ending did wrap up pretty good. a lot of people would enjoy reading this book
“I don't know why it's so hard for people to admit that sometimes they're just assholes who screw up because they don't expect to get caught.”
Overall this was such a fun book and I need to thank my tbr jar (to be read list with book names put into a jar to help me choose my next read) for that, can’t wait till I pull book two out of that jar. I am really excited.
